Gua Niah Entrance
The Archaeological Heritage of Niah National Park’s Caves Complex
The Gua Niah entrance is a stunning introduction to the grandeur of the cave system. Visitors are greeted by the massive limestone formations and the expansive opening of the Great Cave, which measures 122 meters wide and 60 meters high. The entrance marks the start of the exploration into the archaeological treasures and natural wonders of the caves. A well-maintained boardwalk guides visitors through the rainforest and into the cave system, where they can experience the transition from vibrant tropical greenery to the cool, dark interiors of the caves.
In 1958, the entrance to the Great Cave became globally recognized when archaeologists uncovered the Deep Skull, marking one of Southeast Asia’s most significant prehistoric discoveries.
Visitor Tip: Bring a flashlight or headlamp to better navigate the dimly lit caves and appreciate their intricate features.
