Gunung Bintang Granite Peak
Rising to an impressive 1,860 meters, Gunung Bintang Granite Peak stands as the highest point in the Bintang Range, forming a natural boundary between the states of Kedah and Perak, as well as between the Hulu Perak and Taiping districts. This awe-inspiring peak is located along a northeast-southwest ridge, punctuated by deep ravines that run almost parallel to the ridge, adding to the rugged beauty of the landscape.
The granite rocks that define this geosite are part of the Late Triassic Bintang Range, dating back 220–210 million years. These porphyry granite formations tell a story of ancient geological processes, providing valuable insights into the Earth’s past. Gunung Bintang’s ridgelines are dominated by two prominent peaks: Puncak Gunung Bintang Utara (1,838 m) to the north and Gunung Bintang Selatan (1,561 m) to the south, with the former marking the highest point on the mountain.
Beyond its scientific value, Gunung Bintang has the potential to become a pioneering destination for mountain climbing and eco-tourism, drawing adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts alike to experience its breathtaking landscapes and towering granite peaks. This natural wonder represents not only a vital part of Malaysia’s geological heritage but also an exciting opportunity for recreational development, combining adventure, education, and conservation in one stunning location.
