Gunung Pulut Shrub Forest
Nestled within the pristine Papulut Permanent Forest Reserve, this remarkable biosite sits at an altitude of approximately 651 meters. The summit, accessible via a 2.6 km trail, offers an extraordinary glimpse into a unique and fragile ecosystem. The habitat’s distinct character is shaped by quartzite rock formations that create a thin, nutrient-poor layer of soil, supporting a rare and diverse array of life.
At the peak of Gunung Pulut, the landscape is dominated by stunted trees—typically under 10 meters in height—with a sparse canopy, including species such as gelam bukit (Leptospermum flavescens) and cucur atap (Baeckia frutescens). The area is also a sanctuary for wildlife, including the Kingfisher (Argusianus argus), a species with a low threat status that has been recorded here.
This biosite is rapidly gaining recognition as a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and climbers. Its proximity to the area’s geosite makes it an ideal spot for eco-tourism, where visitors can immerse themselves in the stunning morning cloudscapes and enjoy panoramic views of the twin peaks of Gunung Kenderong/Kerunai. Whether for recreation, photography, or a peaceful retreat in nature, this biosite offers an unforgettable experience amid breathtaking landscapes.
