Lenggong Archaeological Museum
The Lenggong Archaeological Museum, also known as the Kota Tampan Archaeological Museum, is a significant cultural and historical landmark located in Kota Tampan, near Lenggong, Perak. This remarkable site offers a glimpse into prehistory, with human activity dating back over 74,000 years.
Located just 100 kilometers north of Ipoh, accessible via Kuala Kangsar and Grik, Lenggong is recognized as one of the oldest known sites of human habitation in West Malaysia. The museum houses a wealth of archaeological treasures, including the famous Perak Man, the oldest human skeleton ever discovered in Peninsular Malaysia. Found in nearby caves, Perak Man dates back approximately 10,000 to 11,000 years, from the late Palaeolithic period, making it an extraordinary testament to the early presence of humans in this region.
The museum is strategically situated close to the lush Lipur Lata Kekabu Rainforest, just 2 kilometers from the archaeological sites, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore both the natural beauty and the deep history of the area.
