Mount Kinabalu, standing at 4,095 meters, is the highest peak between the Himalayas and New Guinea. It is the centerpiece of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountain is renowned for its rich biodiversity, hosting over 5,000 plant species, including more than 90 orchid species unique to its slopes, and numerous endemic animal species. Geologically, Mount Kinabalu is a young granite intrusion, formed about 15 million years ago and uplifted approximately 1 million years ago. The mountain holds significant cultural importance for the indigenous Kadazandusun people, who consider it sacred. Climbing Mount Kinabalu is a popular activity, offering trekkers a challenging yet rewarding experience with breathtaking views and diverse ecosystems ranging from tropical lowland forests to alpine meadows.
