Murut Cultural Centre

Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve

The Sabah Murut Cultural Centre in Tenom is a remarkable hub dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural arts and heritage of Sabah’s Murut ethnic groups. Situated 13 km before Tenom town along the main road from Keningau, the center is housed within a striking timber complex inspired by traditional Murut village architecture. Spanning 33 acres by the Pegalan River, the main building alone covers 20 acres, showcasing the grandeur of Murut craftsmanship with towering pillars and intricate carvings.

The center features an impressive gallery displaying artifacts such as jars, gongs, and traditional Murut designs. Visitors can immerse themselves in the culture by trying the traditional wooden trampoline, or Lansaran, and exploring the architectural artistry that epitomizes Murut heritage.

In addition to its cultural exhibits, the center functions as a venue for seminars, workshops, and research activities aimed at developing and promoting Murut cultural arts. Facilities include an auditorium, exhibition hall, kiosk, and rental options for traditional costumes and equipment. The Sabah Murut Cultural Centre offers a unique and enriching experience, celebrating the rich traditions of the Murut community.
