Raban Lake, located in the northern part of the Chenderoh Dam, is a stunning hydroelectric reservoir that was constructed in 1928. Nestled between the towering Chepar Granite Dome Hills to the east and the Bintang Granite Range to the west, this tranquil lake has evolved into a near-natural ecosystem, resembling the characteristics of a mature freshwater lake.

Formed in a valley once shaped by the collapse of the slopes of Mount Hong, Raban Lake is not just a modern creation—it sits atop an ancient lakebed, offering a glimpse into the region’s long geological and ecological history. The lake’s unique topography, with its narrow channels between ridges and small islands that rise from the hilltops, creates a striking landscape that is both serene and captivating.

The upper reaches of the lake boast a thriving coastal ecosystem, rich with water plants, water grasses, and water lilies, providing a sanctuary for diverse aquatic life. This diverse habitat supports a high degree of biological diversity, making Raban Lake a prime example of an aquatic ecosystem with both aesthetic and scientific value. The lake is a haven for local wildlife, as well as a key resource for the communities living in nearby traditional villages, whose livelihoods are closely linked to the lake’s abundant natural resources.

For visitors, Raban Lake offers excellent tourism and recreation facilities at Raban Lake Square, making it an ideal destination for relaxation, nature walks, bird watching, and water activities. Its blend of natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and cultural significance makes Raban Lake not only a key ecological asset but also a unique and inviting spot for both local and international tourists.
